How to Fish at Cloudrift: Carp Tips, Rigs and Baits That Work

Cloudrift on the Vaal River recently hosted Riaan Hattingh, a passionate and experienced angler, for a focused three-night carp fishing getaway in Vanderbijlpark. Staying in our Garden Cottage, Riaan made the most of the peaceful river surroundings and documented his session to share proven setups, bait choices and tips that delivered excellent results.

Day 1: challenging weather, solid results
The session started with heavy rainfall, making conditions tough. Despite this, two carp were landed, averaging 3.2 kg, proof of the fish's resilience and feeding activity even under pressure.
Day 2: non-stop action
As the venue got busier the fish switched on. A highly productive day produced 13 carp, averaging 4.1 kg, with consistent bites throughout.
Day 3: big numbers and quality fish
The final day delivered 15 carp, including a personal-best 5.8 kg fish. A perfect way to end an unforgettable session.
